2009-2010 Board of Trustees
"Those entrusted with the stewardship of policies and procedures, serve the school's highest purposes by working in harmony with the statement and the spirit of our school's mission and goals."
The Grumman Hill Montessori Association is a parent owned, non-profit corporation that has overall responsibility for the physical and financial health of our school. Membership in the corporation includes all parents, in loco parents, official guardians and members of the school staff.
The membership elects the Board of Trustees, currently 19 members plus the School Director and Business Manager who serve as ex-officio trustees. Their duties are defined by the By-laws as follows:
* All trustees shall understand Montessori philosophy, principles and practices and shall maintain awareness of all activities of the corporation and staff, school, and parent functions.
* The business of the corporation shall be managed by the Board with responsibility for operations, overall planning and development, including financial matters necessary for the proper growth of the school and the corporation.
* The trustees' roles as managers of the affairs of the corporations include selection of the School Director, managing assets and investments, capitalization and fund raising, assessing major plans and actions, amending articles of Incorporation and By-laws (with member approval), considering and recommending fundamental changes, and crisis management.
* Trustees monitor rather than manage and administer. Trustees do not handle the day-to-day operations, but instead pursue the broad issues that impact upon the corporation.
* Those entrusted with the stewardship of policies and procedures serve the school's highest purpose by working in harmony with the statement and the spirit of our school's mission.
