Admissions - Welcome
Dear Prospective Parents,
As we consider the entry and placement of new students, we are most interested in supporting the developmental needs of each individual. Providing a holistic approach to child development is at the heart of an authentic Montessori education and we believe that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. At The Montessori School, each Lead Teacher is AMI Montessori trained and certified to teach a specific level; and every classroom has been masterfully designed and prepared to serve each child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs during a particular phase of development.
So that we may understand more about your child, we invite your family to join us in a Learning Partnership. It is important to us that we learn about your child’s needs and interests as well as your family values. We also recognize and value the importance of helping parents understand the Montessori philosophy and approach to education. This mutual learning and understanding is the foundation for a strong relationship on behalf of your child.
As we begin our Learning Partnership, the following steps are necessary in the Admissions Process:
Completion of The Montessori School Application will formalize your place in our Admissions Process. The information that you provide allows us to learn important details about your child and your family.
• Formal Observation
Prospective Parents are required to observe in a classroom as part of the Admissions Process. We offer Parents the opportunity to visit The Montessori School on most Thursday mornings (9 – 10:30 am). At this time you will have the opportunity to tour the school, observe in a classroom, and participate in a follow-up discussion. Having the opportunity to observe students and teachers interacting with one another and the environment allows one to experience the Montessori approach up close!
• Family Interview
Following the completion of both the Application and Formal Observation, your family will be invited for an interview with a classroom teacher. At this time, your child will have the opportunity to explore the environment as guided by a Montessori trained teacher. The connection between parents, child, and teacher is very important. This visit will allow you time to experience the Montessori environment and method through your child’s eyes; and also allow us time to assess your child’s developmental needs and readiness.
Following your Family Interview, we will share relevant feedback and observations as well as discuss next steps toward admission. We value every relationship that is formed with each family, and we are delighted to partner with you in support of your child reaching his/her full potential as a developing human being.
I look forward to connecting with you!
